Please note that as of today (06th SEPT 07) 0700 Hrs, the Aswa river bridge on the Gulu - Kitgum highway had flooded with water flowing over the bridge. For the duration of the week (until 09th SEPT 07) UN missions are advised to use one of two alternative routes to move between Gulu and Kitgum namely:-
1. From Kitgum through Pader, Lira into Gulu
2. From Kitgum through Barayom to Awere into Gulu (Given reports of LRA remnant activity in Barayom, this route should be the second option. Please restrict travels on this road to between 0900 Hrs to 1600 Hrs).
We shall also endeavor to assess another alternative route from Kitgum through Palabek Ogili, Apyeta into Palaro and subsequently Gulu and advise accordingly.
Further assessment will be made on the bridge during the week and appropriate recommendations made.
