NFI & ES Sector Situation Report: ABYEI CRISIS - 30 May 2008

  • Stocks for 3,000 households from the NFI Common Pipeline in North Sudan were requested by OCHA – South Sudan Coordination Cell to assist with the shortfall of NFI stocks in Agok and the surrounding areas. The balance of the stocks was airlifted by UNMIS to Wau today, 30 May, and is expected to be taken to Agok by IOM trucks by end of day.
  •  UNJLC, with the kind assistance of UNMIS, has announced an air cargo transport service from Khartoum to Wau to assist in providing relief items for the current Abyei crisis. A total of three air movements are scheduled between next Sunday, 1 June, and Thursday, 12th of June; each movement with a maximum capacity of 20 tonnes, providing for 60 tonnes over the course of the two weeks. Onward transportation or storage from Wau airport will require further coordination from the user with the UNJLC/IOM team on the ground.
