Further to the WFP News Release: 25 March 2008 - THREE DRIVERS OF WFP-CONTRACTED TRUCKS KILLED IN SUDAN; please see the assessment conducted recently on the impact to the transport market as a result of insecurity in the Darfur states. See below for the main points regarding security.

Assessment of  Hijacking Incidents.

  • On the available data, 39 incidences of 'truckjacking' occurred in Darfur between 01 Nov 2007 and 31 Jan 2008.
  • The survey focused solely on 'truckjacking' where the vehicle was actually taken.
  • 14 routes were identified where 'truckjacking' incidents had occurred.
  • 51% of the incidents taking place on the Ed Daein – Zalinge route, (approximately 450 kms).
