1. Darfur NFI Common Pipeline update
2006 NFI CP Darfur Stocks as of 30 September 2006 - See Image 1
Incoming Items: This week, 23,800 blankets and 17,500 pieces of plastic sheeting were received for the NFI Common Pipeline in El Obeid. (Blankets procured with funding from USAID/OFDA).
Received Items: No update was available.
Toaps: Still no new stocks available. Due mid-December. However, stocks are still available as fewer distributions have taken place as a result of insecurity.
NFI Monitoring and Evaluation: The full CARE monitoring and evaluation report (August) was shared by CARE. Highlights include:
- On aggregate, family size was found to be 7 members in South Darfur (Dito), while it is 8 in West Darfur (Dorti).
- In terms of the quality of items, plastic sheeting was almost unanimously voted as the most useful item (96%), followed by women's clothing (89%) and jerry cans (85%).
- Beneficiaries were asked to rank the items urgently needed but not distributed in the current pipeline, they ranked the three highest items as mosquito nets (43%), barrels (25%) and cooking utensils (21%).
Work Plan for 2007: Projects sheets should now all be submitted to UNJLC.
2. Logistics Overview
Rainy Season Information: Organisations are encouraged to submit updates on the status of roads and rainy season access to the sudan.logs@unjlc.org email list.
Issue of American Citizens Restrictions on Travel: Reports have been circulating regarding possible and potential restrictions by GOS on American citizens travelling outside of Khartoum, although the situation is particularly unclear.
Landmine Safety: UNMAO offers landmine safety briefings every Tuesday from 10-11 am at the UNMAO office in Khartoum. All organisations are encouraged to sign up. To do so, send your name, email address and telephone number to signup@sudanmap.org.

3. Air Ops - UNMIS
UNMIS representative: UNMIS/MOVCON is open to comments regarding increased access to flights for NGOs. Queries can be addressed with MOVCON direct. To access UNMIS spare cargo capacity on flights or trucks, fill out the UNMIS Request Form (CMR) at http://www.unjlc.org/sudan/transport/air/cargo_passenger/ and submit to the UNJLC office for authorisation before submitting the form to UNMIS Movcon for processing from 0800 to 1300.
4. Convoy
Convoy to Darfur: The convoy departed on 24 September, with a total of 28 vehicles en route to El Fasher, Nyala and El Geneina. It was expected to arrive within the next few days. (Update: Convoy actually arrived 10 October).
Parties interested in taking part in the next convoy should expect communication from UNJLC in the near future, pending the security situation.
5. Other Pipeline
NGOs are reminded to inform UNJLC of details of NFI distributions to assist an overview of the entire NFI situation. If logisticians are tasked with transportation of NFI cargo, please inform UNJLC on quantities and destination at UNJLC.khartoum@wfp.org.
6. Fuel
Shortages appear now to be largely finished.
7. South Sudan Information
UNJLC operates a separate mailing list for logistics information in South Sudan. Organisations interested in joining the South Sudan list should send an email to southsudan.logs@unjlc.org.
UNJLC holds weekly logistics coordination meetings in Juba. Interested organisations are encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Robert Sepe at robert.sepe@wfp.org.
UNJLC has extended its deadline for submissions to the survey on warehousing needs in Juba. NGOs who have not yet responded are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. The survey will ascertain whether common warehousing services would be useful to the humanitarian community. Several options are being investigated by UNJLC, including commercial and UN-funded options. Costs are yet to be finalised but these will be announced by UNJLC when available.
8. AOB
A request has been received through UNJLC West Darfur by Intersos, who are looking to find spare capacity on trucks to move 15 tons of soap from El Geneina to Garsila. Any organisation able to help can contact Neil Barriskell on neil.barriskell@wfp.org.
