Lastest monitoring Updates 26th October 2007

Document Actions

On 26th  October the logistics team on the ground reported the following issues:

Weather:

  • Soroti:  Moderate to heavy rain still reported in Soroti, Katakwi and Amuria
  • Lira: Light to moderate rains experienced around Lira town with heavy rains reported in Otuke making roads hard to use
  • Kitgum: Some heavy to light rains reported all over Kitgum in the last week
  • Gulu:  Moderate rains reported in and around Gulu

Access / Boat Operations:

  • Water levels at Komolo swamp; in Awojja and Aguu bridges have been steadily receding.
  • According to media reports, the Minister of Disaster Preparedness has restrained heavy relief loaded trucks from using the repaired road section between Komolo to Katakwi or at least suggested to carry low tonnage.
  • Aguu Bridge is open to traffic. Despite the high water levels is still advisable to travel to Soroti via Lira town for heavily loaded trucks.
  • Laropi river crossing is still a challenge. Shuttling trucks between Moyo and Pakelle are still making one rotation.
  • Cheptui Bridge on the highway to Moroto via Chepsikunya is officially closed to heavy trucks.
  • The re assessment of roads in Pader with road engineers is in progress.
  • Gulu - Adjumani road is still closed.
  • Alternative route via Moyo is the only gateway to Sudan (Juba), hence heavily jammed with congestion at Lalopi ferry crossing point to Pakelle EDP.
  • Boat operation at Awoja Bridge is still running, enabling local population to cross the river.

LOGS Cluster, UNJLC:

  • UNJLC GIS service is continuing at Soroti.
