Latest monitoring Updates 19 October 2007

On 18th October the logistics team on the ground reported the following issues:

Weather:

  1. Heavy rain reported in Soroti and katakwi in the last 24 hrs 

Roads / Bridge:

  1. Link to Katakwi from Soroti across the Komolo swamp reported dry and dusty
  2. The re-assessment of roads in Pader with the road engineer isin progress
  3. Moroto/Kotido: By-pass construction at Cheptui bridge on the highway to Moroto via Chepsikunya is  in progress

LOGS Cluster and UNJLC:

  1. The regular Cluster Meetings at Kampala will no longer be held (can be held ad-hoc basis, if required).
  2. The Logistics Cluster has been in contact with the Ugandan Revenue Authority and the Office of the Prime Minister seeking information. According to the information gathered to date, if an organization is importing goods for the flood response they should be allowed in without having to pay duty.
  3. The latest Logistics Cluster Road Matrix & Weather update has been published on the logistics  cluster webpage: http://www.logcluster.org/uganda-floods/map-centre
  4. Transportation Overview Maps  have been uploaded as well 
  5.  The first Uganda "Logistics Cluster Bulletin" has been issued on 16Oct

  • On 18th October the Monitor reported that floods, which have battered the eastern and northern parts of the country for the past five months, have also swept away two bridges in the central region district of Mubende, submerged roads and left at least five people dead.
  • The flood waters have also cut off four sub-counties from the rest of Mubende, leaving about 120,000 people helpless.
