1. HIGHLIGHTS

  • The next Bangkok Logistics Cluster will be held tomorrow 19th May at the WFP office to share the latest updates on logistics related issue with the humanitarian community actors.
  • The prime Minister of Thailand has approved the use of DON MUANG as staging area for humanitarian cargo direct to Myanmar.

2. CLUSTER ACTIVITIES UPDATES

  • Over the last two days the Logistic Cluster in Yangoon has been working on the finalization of the contracting for the truck and boat fleet set up for agency purposes. Contact soon to be signed
  • Aviation staff joined the Logistics cluster in Bangkok. They have been working the finalization of the standard operating procedures for the utilization of the aviation services that the cluster will be offering.
  • Please submit cargo forecast information to the cluster focal point, Rachida Abdelli (abdelli.rachida@wfp.org)
  • For the booking of movements of cargo, please submit CMRs to: Myanmar.cargo@unjlc.org as per the guidance available on the logistics cluster webpage.

3. AIR TRANSPORT

  • Updated information on cargo flights arrived into Myanmar has been compiled on the daily air operations report and made available on the cluster webpage. The logistics cluster appreciates the effort of the partners and is asking participants to continue to compile the suggested format (available on the web) and to provide related information. Details available on the Air operations daily update.
  • An operations hub managed by WFP at Bangkok‘s former international airport Don Muang, has been approved by the Office of the Prime Minister of Thailand.WFP is taking Cargo Movement Requests ( CMRs) from other UN agencies and NGOs for cargo handling in Thailand as a staging post into Myanmar.

4. BRIDGES

  • Labutta: the public work department is planning to construct bailey bridges for the replacement of wooden bridge. They are also renovating/strengthening the Nyaung Chaung bridge which is currently in bad conditions.
