1. HIGHLIGHTS

• On 12th May at 14.00 hours the Myanmar Flash Appeal for Tropical Cyclone Nargis has been launched in Bangkok. The launch was followed by the donor’s consultation for the response to this emergency.
• Second consolidated “bilateral and multilateral” air operation report finalized by the Logistics Cluster.

2. CLUSTER ACTIVITIES UPDATES:

• The Logistics Cluster in Yangoon is working on the identification of suitable logistics hubs according to the ongoing assessment results. As Mawlamyine Gyun is accessible only by river, another possible location called Kyong Mangay has been identified as well as Pyanpon. The establishment of the logistics hubs will also be depending on where the users of the common service will be focusing their efforts.
• The next logistics clusters meeting will be held with the following schedules:

1. Bangkok Tuesday 13th May at 11.00 in WFP office
2. Yangoon Wednesday 14th May at 14.00 Yangoon time in WFP office.

• Negotiations with Thai authorities on the availability of space at the airport to set up as staging areas common transport service are ongoing. WFP aviation officer arrived yesterday in Bangkok and they are organizing meeting also with commercial parts.
• The cluster consolidation work of the incoming pipeline is ongoing. The cluster is requesting all partners to kindly submit the requested information to Rachida
  Abdelli (abdelli.rachida@wfp.org) the focal point for the collection of this information.

3. AIR TRANSPORT

• The second report on cargo flights that have arrived into Myanmar and Thailand for the response has been finalized by the logistics cluster and made available on the cluster webpage. The logistics cluster is asking participants to continue compile the suggested format (available on the web) and to provide related information.
• An aircraft coming from UAE form chartered by Dubai Cares and carrying school tents for Save the Children arrived on the 11th May in Yangoon and was
  discharged during the night.
• Antonov 12 operated by WFP out of the Cambodia is due to arrive today 12th May in Yangoon carrying NFI for WFP.
  

4. ROAD TRANSPORT :

• With the Monsoon season approaching (2nd week of June) the inland transport through tucks will be preferred to the boat one. Therefore there is a great need for assessments on bridges condition to reach the affected areas.

5. PORT:

• The Yangoon port is reported to be open since this morning although on a limited basis.
• Permission is needed in order to be able to use the port.
• Warehouse capacity is reported to be available although an assessment on damages of the storage facilities is needed.
• Assessment of the Pathein port is ongoing and information will be available in a couple of days.
