• On 3rd July UNHCR reported that amid a rising number of deaths among boatpeople making dangerous voyages across the Mediterranean Sea, the Gulf of Aden and other stretches of water, the UN refugee agency and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) are calling for more action to prevent this humanitarian tragedy.
• On 3rd July Reuters reported that Somali gunmen shot dead a senior government official in a Mogadishu district and a teenager died when munitions exploded.
• A roadside bomb also detonated next to an AU convoy in the seaside city that is enduring an upsurge in attacks by insurgents targeting interim administration officials.
