Kenya - Latest updates - 9th January 07
- On 8th January Agence France Presse (AFP) reported that the Kenyan government accepted blame for failing to tackle an outbreak of Rift Valley Fever (RVF) that has killed 75 people on the past three weeks, as health teams started a programme to vaccinate at least two million livestock.
- AFP also reported that the disease has so far infected around 200 people since it was first reported in mid-December and has continued to spread across several mostly aid districts in the country.
- For the next three weeks, experts will carry out vaccinations, public education programmes and quarantine enforcement to help stop the spread of the disease, which has dealt a devastating blow to pastoralist communities in regions where herds had already been depleted by a succession of drought and flooding.
