13th December - Latest events:

  • On 8th December, the African Peace and Security Council adopted, in its closed session held in Addis Ababa, a resolution on supporting reconstruction and development efforts in the Central African Republic,. The resolution emphasizes the need to respect the sovereignty, stability and territorial unity of the Central African Republic, and calls upon rebels to abandon violence and adopt dialogue as a means of resolving the current problems ( Sources: Relief web, Government of Egypt Press Release)
  • ON 13th December, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) launched a joint appeal for $50 million to provide emergency food, shelter and health care to 1 million people in the Central African Republic (CAR), where rising insecurity and financial problems are taking an increasingly serious toll.   • The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has identified health, protection, food security and shelter as priority needs for Central Africans. ( Sources: Relief web , UN News Service)
  • IFRC launched a Contingency Planning for Population Movements in Central Africa. This DREF Bulletin is being issued based on the situationĀ  reflecting the information available at this time. CHF 130,000 (USD 107,705 or EUR 81,710) was allocated from the Federation's Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) on 8 December 2006 to respond to the needs in this operation. This operation is expected to be implemented over 3 months, and will be completed by 8 March 2007.
