Latest monitoring Updates 18 February 2008

  • On 15th February IRIN and UNHCR reported that UNHCR efforts, in eastern Chad, to move newly-arrived Sudanese refugees from West Darfur to camps away from the border, were blocked by an unknown armed group.
  • On 15th February OCHA reported that estimates of refugees in Cameroon's north-eastern town of Kousséri are still not available. UNHCR and its partners are focusing on the official registration due to start so that exact figures may be reached.
  • The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has launched an appeal for US$ 2.6 million to its donors, to support the Cameroonian Red Cross (CRC) in the response to the crisis.
  • On 15th February Agence France Presse (AGF) reported that Chad was placed under a state of emergency Friday 15th.
