Latest monitoring Updates 13th February 2008

  • On 12th February the UNCT in Cameroon reported that on 16th February, UNHCR and its partners are to start offering transport for the refugees from Kousséri to a camp near the town of Maltam, 32 km away.
  • Official registration will be conducted at that time, enabling humanitarians to have an exact figure of the group.
  • According to the UNCT, 21 humanitarian organizations are now working on the ground in Kousséri, including 6United Nations agencies, 13 NGOs, and the Red Cross movement.
  • On 12th February BBC reported that the European Union military force heading for eastern Chad and the Central African Republic has resumed its deployment. The EUFOR mission said a military transport plane had arrived in the town of Abeche in eastern Chad, and more would follow in the coming days. The force of almost 4,000 troops expects to be operational by the end of the month.
