The UNJLC employs consultants and short-term staff with extensive logistics experience in large scale and complex humanitarian logistics operations acquired through employment with operational UN agencies or major NGOs at a senior level.
In cases where a suitable candidate cannot be identified from the active duty roster, the UNJLC core managers may resort to external recruitment from available profiles of highly qualified applicants/candidates.
These profiles have been submitted by interested parties and were incorporated into a data base of pre-selected candidates from which the UNJLC core team managers can recruit when international professional vacancies are authorized for external recruitment.
Requested Qualifications:
In general, a university degree in the related field is a prerequisite. In isolated cases extensive, proven logistics experience with operational UN agencies or major NGO's and/or the successful work in related fields over many years may compensate for the absence of an advanced university degree, at the discretion of the employment panel.
UNJLC staff usually has experience in dealing with passenger and cargo air operations; road, rail, and sea transportation; logistics planning, contracting, and budgeting; route survey and assessments; and general field logistics. In conjunction with the relevant experience the majority of UNJLC staff members have also completed the UNJLC training programme.
Full working knowledge of English is a requirement; the knowledge of another official UN language is desirable. (Official UN languages include English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese and Russian).
Ideal candidates are expected to demonstrate a flexible, dynamic and loyal personality, have proven experience in team building and problem solving, as well as strong analytical capacities.
Special emphasis shall be placed on risk management and conflict solving skills. Skills in planning, organizing and supervising complete and integral tasks, as well as their appropriate delegation is considered to be an added advantage.
The ability to initiate and maintain dialogue within and among divergent communities in a difficult, ever-changing, multicultural environment is essential. The capacity and readiness to innovate within this operational atmosphere is expected on a daily basis.
UNJLC staff members are expected to be able to function within a team structure as well as independantly in critical and complex situations. Candidates should be open to the possibility of being assigned to remote locations, with spartan living and working conditions for extended periods of time.
Workflow, reporting formats and routines to be adhered to depend on the individual assignment and will be defined and determined by the UNJLC Core team managers, subject to change, upon initial briefing.
All UNJLC members may be required to perform any other duties in line with their capacities and capabilities in the best interest of the UNJLC.
