Visa Requirements Syrian nationals with a valid passport can go back into Syria. Iraqis with a valid passport can go back into Iraq. Personnel/Vehicle crossing into Iraq is possible provided the driver has an authorization from the owner to drive the vehicle; the driver/vehicle is in possession of all its papers (i.e. called Mechanic in Syria); the international personnel is in possession of a visa (not required for personnel coming from Arabic countries). It should be explained that the vehicle and its passengers only want to transit through Syria.

This EP is connected by good asphalt roads with Aleppo and with the Mediterranean Sea ports via Homs. It can also be accessed from Damascus. In Deir ez-Zour (about 136km from the border) commercial WH facilities are available. Distance from Deir ez-Zour to Damascus is 458 km, to Lathakiya 506 km, to Aleppo 320 km and to Tartous 474 km. Deir ez-Zour is also equipped with an airport where an Airbus and B-727 can land. On the Iraqi side, this crossing point is directly linked with Baghdad and has also a good connection to Kirkuk.
