UNLJC Logistics Overview
The UNJLC Logistics overview provides a background of the country's existing infrastructure and the logistics systems which have been put in place by the humanitarian community serving in the Pakistan earthquake disaster. The report focuses on Islamabad and the affected area served by the main four hubs of Bagh, Batagram, Mansehra and Muzaffarabad and covers geography, security, roads, ports, rail, aviation, fuel, mapping, customs and immigration. It also provides links to additional information of potential use to logisticians working in the Pakistan operation.
UNJLC's mandate is to assist the humanitarian community in matters relating to the logistics of the relief operation. This includes cargo transport for agencies and NGOs (through the UNJLC cargo movement request program), assistance with customs and immigration, the assessment of logistics infrastructure (including fuel capacity, road issues and warehousing), the collation of pipeline information to serve cargo transport planning and help identify gaps in distribution, the collation and dissemination of all logistics-related information pertaining to the relief effort, and the production of maps focusing on the logistics of the affected area.
