Mozambique- Latest Updates 27th February 2007

•    On 26th February CARE released a report on the situation in Mozambique after the cyclone Favio stroke the country:

    1.    At least four people died and another 70 were wounded by Cyclone Favio, a category-4 storm, which hit Mozambique on 22nd February.
    2.    The cyclone, which made landfall at Vilanculos, 800 kilometres (500 miles) north of Maputo, tore apart the homes of 8,000 families and also                partially damaged the municipal hospital. Inhambanebe Province, where Vilanculos is located, is one of the poorest provinces in one of the                world’s poorest countries, Mozambique.
    3.    According to weather predictions, additional cyclones may strike southern African countries in the next few weeks.

•    According to the Logistics Cluster:

    1.    Floods waters have reduced under alert levels;
    2.    the Cyclone hit Vilankulos very hard , assessment report on the situation will be out by today;
    3.    New floods in Buzi displaced 800 ( please note that Buzi is not on the Zambezi basin and it has been affected by totally other waters;
