Mine-UXO in Lebanon
The UXO and Cluster Bomb threat in South Lebanon coupled with the significant UXB threat in the remainder of the country poses an immediate and lethal threat to the resident population, returning IDPs and humanitarian workers, and may significantly hinder the humanitarian assistance response.
The UN Mine Action Rapid Response Plan for mine/UXO clearance and coordination assets was deployed immediately after the conflict and is in the process of strengthening existing capabilities to quickly bring the threat under control, thus removing the immediate danger from local communities and increasing the ability of the humanitarian community to provide relief aid where it is most needed.
