Meeting Minutes - 14 September 2006
Action Points
- All humanitarian actors requiring cargo movement should use the Cargo Movement Request form and send to UNJLC at lebanon.cargo@unjlc.org
- All humanitarian actors are invited to share information on their relief cargo pipeline.
- Any feedback/follow up on cargo movements can be addressed directly through UNJLC.
Operational Update
- The use of commercial trucks without convoy escorts and notifications is ongoing normally. Requirements are not extensive.
- WFP's presence for cargo movement into Lebanon from Syria will stop at the end of September. In terms of cargo movement inside Lebanon, it is expected to continue until the end of the project (24 October) although WFP will begin winding down operations by 10 October. Other UN agencies and NGOs must inform WFP if there are any further cargo movement requirements.
- Other UN agencies have presented verbal requests:
- IOM is receiving a large shipment of already-constructed 12-metre, pre-fabricated houses from Latakia to Damascus. It has requested that WFP (on behalf of the Cluster) deliver the items into Beirut. The number of pre-fabricated houses is not yet specified.
- UNFPA is receiving a cargo of medical supplies at the Syrian border that requires transport into Lebanon.
Other Issues
- UNJLC confirmed that a weekly update report is being presented to the Lebanese High Relief Commission (HRC), indicating commodity roll-ups namely food and non-food items. In order of UNJLC to continue operating beyond the project duration, HRC must present an official request for an extension.
- The frequency of the Logistics Cluster meetings has been reduced to once a week, namely Tuesday at 9 am.
