ICRC advised that they have chartered a Roro vessel that is currently loading in Mersin and will deliver cargos along the coast.
Ship Movement
- The WFP-contracted Turkish vessel (Kazim Genc) is still offloading, with some items being loaded on to the Roro vessel.
- Roro vessel, Anamcara has finished offloading. Items will be loaded on to it this morning, namely from WFP, UNICEF and Premiere Urgence. 20 drums of diesel oil and potentially, 6000 litre of petrol (to be confirmed). The vessel should then proceed to Tyre. A question raised was whether the Roro vessel will go up and down the coast of Lebanon. This depends on the Logistics Cluster needs.
Fuel
- In addition, 6,000 litres of petrol may also be transported over Tyre. If agreed, the petrol will be transported on behalf of WHO to hospitals in Tyre.
Other Issues
- A permanent presence is being set up in Tyre.
- A question raised was whether the Roro vessel will go up and down the coast of Lebanon. This depends on the Logistics Cluster needs.
- UNICEF proposed adding another CLP, namely Mersin (Turkey), but based on bilateral discussions it was decided to avoid Mersin due to its slow performance.
- A charter passenger catamaran with a 300-person capacity will begin to transfer staff between Larnaca and Beirut port as of 17 August. The service will be offered twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, free of charge to UN agencies, OCHA-accredited NGOs and embassies. It was proposed to IOM and UNHCR to discuss with WFP whether the catamaran can also be used at a cost to transport displaced people.
