This concludes the first phase of UNIFIL deployment. The next large deployment is expected in about three weeks with the second phase of new troops along with the arrival of the German naval contingent, which should bring the force closer to 12,000. (Source: UNIFIL)
- The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has pulled out of over 80% of occupied Lebanese territory. The current aim is for a full withdrawal by the end of the month.
- The security phase in Beirut has been reduced to phase 2. The area north of the Litani river and Tyre pocket remain phase 3, with the rest of the area south of the Litani still considered phase 4.
2. AIR OPERATIONS
- With the cessation of the UNHAS-tasked C160 flights on 20/9/06, all incoming air cargo for the humanitarian community is now taking place by commercial means.

5. INFRASTRUCTURE (Roads, Bridges, Rail, Ports, Airports, Warehouse)
- The reconstruction of the Fidar Bridge, which forms a vital link between Beirut and Tripoli and was one of the 107 bridges destroyed during the war, has now recommenced. The project is being underwritten by Lebanese private sector donors.
- Mercy Corps has begun repairs to 16 schools in the Nabitayeh and Marjayoun districts after project endorsement by the High Relief Commission. The overall plan is to rehabilitate 41 public schools in Baalbek, Jezzine, Nabatiyeh and Marjayoun before the beginning of the school year. (Source HRC).

6. LOGISTICS COORDINATION
- The Logistics Cluster will soon have to dismantle its warehouse at Beirut port, which was established in an area now needed for the loading/unloading of cargo. However, the port authorities have expressed their willingness to provide warehousing for up to 1,500 MT of wheat flour still expected by WFP up to the end of the emergency phase on 24th October.
- All additional cargo for the Logistics Cluster will now be stored in the Wickhalls established at Karantina or loaded directly onto trucks for onward distribution.
- Transport of cargo for UNICEF, including water, hygiene kits and back to school supplies, will be required right through the end of the Logistics Cluster common cargo transport program.
- UNHCR has received its last load of NFI in Tyre and expects all final distribution of emergency shelter goods to be complete by 28/9/06.
- The hub of Tyre will be closing by the end of next week. After this time all cargo will be coordinated and transported directly from Beirut.
