Air operations
All UN air operations in Iraq are conducted by the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service, an interagency service provided by WFP. The UNJLC website maintains the summary of Airspace/Airports, Archives of Air Overviews (bulletins), information about air safety and air infrastructure (airfields and fleets) and, most critically, UNHAS booking procedures for passengers and cargo.
In the initial period of the Iraq crisis the UNJLC acted as an "air coordination platform" whose roles included the identifcation and clearances for airspace, air-cargo planning, prioritisation, and scheduling, assessments and other activities facilitating humanitarian air (particularly cargo) activities. More details can be found in the Air Overview Archives (see left menu) and the UNJLC Terms of Reference for the Iraq operation.
