Delivery tracking
Delivery Tracking Tool to Facilitate Flow of Goods to Iraq
UNJLC has created a web-based delivery tracking system intended to facilitate the smooth flow of OFF non-food items into Iraq. In cooperation with the UN Office for Project Services -UNOPS - the system is populated with updated information on contracts and deliveries of goods to Iraq including their expected delivery dates and entry points. In addition, the database contains an exhaustive list of those suppliers under contract to deliver non-food items to Iraq and their contact details. The objective of the cargo tracking system is to provide a reliable picture of the flow of goods into Iraq and to identify potential bottlenecks so that they can be addressed in due time. Hence, the system is designed to provide a logistical support to those responsible for overseeing and ensuring the flow of goods into the country.
The database, updated on a regular basis, provides a good representative sample of the current status of deliveries. The sample indicates (see table) that most deliveries go through the entry point of Trebil or around 40 percent while 34 percent of the volume is shipped via the port of Umm Qasr. According to previous surveys 40 percent of deliveries were forwarded through Umm Qasr. The entry point at Zakho seems to gain most on Umm Qasr’s proportional loss receiving around 14 percent of deliveries according to the delivery tracking tool. When the delivery of oil spares is singled out Umm Qasr handles roughly 40 percent, a little less than Trebil which receives 43 percent of deliveries.
The statistics also show that the bulk of deliveries of non-food items to Iraq arrive from northern and western Europe as well as the Mediterranean region.
