There is only one narrow gauge (0.762m) line , 51km in length, between Jaynagar and Janakpur. The line is operated by the Nepal Transport Corporation which offers a daily passenger service between the two locations. It has 11 steam engines, and 4 diesel engines.

Only 4 engines are in running order. NTC has 38 coaches and 18 goods wagons. The line is not connected to the Indian Railways which operates a much wider track gauge (1.676m).

This railway line is of no interest for the transport of relief cargo.
